About us

Our Story

Supporting ingenuity in the life sciences

The name of the company was inspired by both the resilience of the Juniper tree and as a reference to Junípero Serra, founder of the first California mission, San Diego de Alcalá.

By leveraging our expertise in the life sciences, our mission is to empower biopharmaceutical and health tech companies to continue to innovate. We believe the future of health care is precision medicine, and we want to use our deep knowledge in this space to make that happen.

What Sets Us Apart

Uniquely positioned to understand the needs of our clients

With a team of talented individuals each with a background in the life sciences, we are uniquely positioned to tackle a high-profile set of challenges. We’re not management consultants transitioning to another industry. We are industry experts working as creative problem solvers. Therefore, we speak the language of the life sciences. From biotechnology to health care, our job is to deliver competitive insights that help our clients navigate complex decisions with confidence.

Juniper Life Sciences is led by our founder and CEO, Samuel Sarmiento. Dr. Sarmiento is a physician passionate about finding solutions to problems in health care and beyond. For the past five years, he has been combining his background in medicine, his business vision, and his problem solving skills as a strategy consultant and leader in the life sciences. He completed his internship in surgery at Mayo Clinic, master’s degrees in public health and business at Johns Hopkins University, and a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. From teaching himself six languages to stepping outside his comfort zone in clinical medicine, he is propelled by challenges.
If you had told me I would end up in the “business of health care” while I was in medical school, I would not have believed you. And why would I? I was on track to become a surgeon. In fact, I had started my hectic intern year in general surgery at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. However, it exactly was this experience that would ultimately drive me to explore non-clinical career options, and the journey has been exciting since.” —Samuel Sarmiento, Founder & CEO
